One Big Five

Atchi, Noel Christopher Lavarias, bon fire tayo?

And because of that today happened.

I find it funny that Tita Jojo was the instigator.  I had no plans of going but I am definitely glad I went.

Going back to Ateneo was like coming home.  As we entered Gate 3, it was the same and yet was not.  There were new buildings but the trees that lined the driveway giving shade were still there.  Bearing witness to the changes the institution has gone through.  I hope they will still provide shade for generations of future atenistas.   Bellarmine field looked much greener, lush green.  Probably benefiting from the many monsoons we've had.

When we got to the gym, I'm amazed at how fast they were able to organize this.  Ah the power of social media.  This makes me glad to be in IT.

We went early because we wanted to attend mass.  The mass was delayed because the athletes were still signing autographs, but it was worth the wait.

Fr. Jett was presiding and he opened with - "Kumusta na kayo?" - simple question. One that we often ask. I don't know why that simple and common question triggered something in me.  Kinda made me think, really how am I?

Addressing the athletes - "Kumusta na kayo?  Masakit na ba ang mga kamay ninyo sa kakapirma ng autograph?  Nakaka-relate ako dahil pumipirma rin ako ng diploma.  Last year there were 3000 graduates.  Sa lagay na yan hindi pa ako atleta."  - or something to that effect.

Then there was his homily.  The gospel was about the man who asked Jesus how he can guarantee a seat in heaven.  He followed all the commandments, what more can he do?  Christ looked at him with love and said to give your possessions to the poor.

Fr. Jett noted that Mark's gospels were usually very direct and to the point, like a reporter sticking to the facts.  But the comment that Christ looking with love - indicates he had an inkling that Christ's answer would be difficult for the man to follow.

Not that Christ is asking us to sell our possessions and live in poverty.  Fr. Jett asked what was weighing you down?  It may not be material possessions, it may be fear or regret.  To let go of these would grant us freedom and lightness of being.  And to love is to be truly free.  And he says while we do things guided by our brains, we should harness doing things with love.  He says that Ateneo is blessed to have people within the institution who do things out of love.

Rare is it when I listen to a homily and hear Christ speaking through the priest with such clarity.  Fr. Jett has that gift.

As we were drawing to a close something happened.  It was a simple act but spoke volumes.  Fr. Jojo was co-celebrant (as Tita Jojo said -read: assistant).  As he was fixing the altar in preparation for the final blessing.  He went about smoothing the cloth, adjusting the pages to show the correct section, then he positioned Fr. Jett's glasses just so.  Something about the act was so very precise and humble.  And from the way he did it, even if it may seem like a small act to us, he was very present to it.   Here was the provincial superior being a servant leader, and unassuming.  It was a lesson for me in humility.

The final song was our Alma Mater Song, this was also sung during the bonfire.  Whenever we sing it, I always feel a sense of community.  And it is always a joy to see all the generations of atenistas present raising their fists. From lolos and mums to little kids.  Tita and her batchmates had their fists raised.  And yes, I proudly raise mine too.

Remote Debugging in Eclipse

Reference: http://www.jacoozi.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=119&Itemid=134

Configuring WAS:
1. Open WebSphere 5.X/6.X Console
2. Navigate to Servers | Application Servers | [SERVERNAME] | Process Definition | Java Virtual Machine
3. Check Debug Mode
4. Arguments can be edited in the field called Debug arguments.
You can paste this line and use the same port 7777 to debug from Eclipse:
-Djava.compiler=NONE -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=7777
Check if the port is up via commandline:
type netstat -a
check if port 7777 is in listening state

Configuring Eclipse:
1. In Eclipse, navigate to Run | Debug (See Figure)
2: Create new Remote Java Application configuration in Eclipse).
2. Select Remote Java Application, on the left column. Click New, on the bottom of the same column. 3. In the Create configuration screen you'll be prompted to enter some values. For Project, select the Java project that contains the source code you want to debug. Leave Connection Type in default, i.e. Standard (Socket Attach).
For Host, enter localhost. If you want to debug a remote server, enter its hostname or IP address. For port, enter 7777 default for websphere app server. e.g.
Host Set to VM IP Address
Port Set to port specified in WAS
4. Click Apply
5. Make sure Websphere instance is running in debug mode. In the same screen click Debug. Eclipse should automatically take you to the Debug perspective and you should see a stack trace in the Debug view.
6. If you are not automatically taken to the Debug perspective, select Window | Open Perspective | Other and then click Debug.

The year that was .. and then some

i loved 2010. if there was one word i associate with the year it's TRAVEL. From Pinatubo to Boracay, China to South Africa. did i have fun? is the answer obvious? i wish i could just travel.

when i wasn't traveling i was working. so what else is new?

i remember a conversation i had with mommy last Jan 2.
mommy: are you sleeping here?
me: nope, have work :(
mommy: you're always working
me: i know!

what are the odds that i'll be working less this year? let me see... i worked on January 1. 'nuff said.

i hope 2011 will be even better. am supposed to go to Zamboanga tomorrow but have to cancel since i'll be giving this training next week. dem. as usual cramming. this brings me back, waaaay back to those all-nighters. naku naman 10 taon na wala pa rin nagbago?!? hahahahaha. wish me luck.

looking forward to closing this project all green, yes even financials.

Dear God, i wonder what you have in store for me this year? can't wait! :)

oh and i need a haircut.

Happy Binary Day! :D

This only happens once in every 400 years. So what did i do on this special day? Sleep! :) I seem to be spending most of my weekends catching up on sleep. But that was after i was trying to figure out why my remote debugging wasn't working. Hence the headache.

Yesterday was spent doing admin tasks, since it's PPR season again, have a backlog of feedback forms to fill out and send out. Not to mention what to write in my ppr. Yes, weekends are the only time i have to do these. And people ask about love life?!? who has time?!? And i refuse to make time. Anyway, here's to a huge increase. It's binary day and i have my hopes up. I wonder what next year has in store for me? Hopefully I'll be in a totally new place, I am craving for change.

This has been a pretty good week. Issues resolved (with new ones surfacing), catching up with old friends. Not much has changed, as i told Apples and Nicole, yes i still live in the same house i grew up in. hahaha. Celebrated Pao's grad last night and Mommy's 20th birthday :P Didn't get to play badminton though, was too tired.

Since it's binary day i spent a couple of minutes recalling how it was to interpret this day again. the long version:
1010
=0*2^0 = 0
=1*2^1 = 2
=0*2^2 = 0
=1*2^3 = 8
=0*2^4 = 0
=1*2^5 = 32
=42

I really should get a life or maybe just go back to sleep.

Halalan 2010

Just finished voting. It was fast and organized. Was able to finish in under an hour and I brought a book to keep me company too. I could only watch in envy of the volunteers making this election happen. Yes there is the desire to do more but schedule does not permit. Yes work has taken so much of my time... :(

Also went to the hospital to have my checkup. Medyo kumakahol na naman ako, sa panahon ngayon, bawal magkasakit.

Here's to the new government, hopefully we Filipinos made the right choice. But whoever the next president may be, that person would need our support. I would like to see a new united progressive country we deserve nothing less.

Sa mga tumutulong para maayos ang eleksyong ito, maraming salamat! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.

Tan's & Jay's Wedding 2008.09.20

2008 is definitely the Year of the Weddings. Last Saturday felt like deja vu.  Except this time it was Tans walking down the aisle looking like a Greek goddess.  Yes, same church, different cast, but my friends just the same. :)

Since I was in a rush to get to the church, buzzer beater, got there just in time to see the march. Beautiful wedding, loved the vows that Tans & Jay created for each other. The reception was poignant, especially when Tita Mol sang.  It brought tears to my eyes. Emotions also ran amuck. There was a bit of hysteria, some grabbing involved, and lots of comedy. And I got some advice from Tita Mol on how to make a marriage work. It all boils down to choice. ;) Perfect ending to a perfect wedding.

Best Wishes and Congratulations Tans and Jay!

Enjoy the pics, taken by Vince, Marc, Les, and some shots from me too (look for the blurry ones)! Using Les' camera.
